March 7, 2007 Colortech in the media! Business First of Columbus has pulished an article in their print edition and on their website. The story details the aquisition of Ohio Full Court Press by Colortech with interviews of Jamie Darrow and Paula Inniss. Click here for to see the story. "For Jamie Darrow, his company's purchase of Ohio Full Court Press Inc. was a means to strengthen his business, but for Paula Inniss, the deal was an exit strategy. Darrow's Colortech Document Solutions bought Inniss' Ohio Full Court Press for an undisclosed sum to create a full-service printing operation with combined sales last year of $4.5 million. Inniss, who founded Full Court Press in 1995 after leaving a job at Xerox Corp., will work with Colortech through 2009 as a part-time consultant. After that she plans to retire with her husband and continue her focus on community service. 'When you start something from nothing, it's your baby," said Inniss, who has been recognized in Central Ohio for her entrepreneurial pursuits with Full Court Press. 'It is important to find someone to take care of it. ... (Darrow) will take care of my baby.' 'I'd be a fool not to keep her,' Darrow said of Inniss. Darrow said he bought Full Court Press intending to keep its 19-member staff in place, citing their 11 years of average tenure as a positive attribute. Darrow worked for Ikon Office Solutions Inc. and OfficeMax Inc. before forming Intelli-Source Ltd. in 2006, the year he acquired Colortech Graphics and Printing Inc. He immediately began looking for another acquisition. Darrow needed to invest in technology, but he didn't have the customer base to justify the expense. 'The market is changing fast,' he said. '"For a small business to survive, you have to get bigger.' Enter Full Court Press. Inniss was looking to sell and had been approached by three suitors in the past two years, but she could not find a match. She and Darrow talked and concluded last fall that combining their companies made sense. Colortech had presses, while Full Court Press had better technology and a sign-and-banner business. Inniss said the combined company became a shop able to handle conceptualization and design to printing and binding, shipping and storage. Colortech primarily serves Fortune 200 companies, but no customer accounts for more than 4 percent of its business. Colortech's push will be into variable-data printing and one-to-one marketing, industry speak for personalized printing. Run lengths are shrinking, Inniss said, with the average job in the industry at less than 5,000 pieces. Darrow said the company will employ a documents-on-demand strategy, which for customers eliminates the traditional print-buy cycle of purchasing in bulk and needing to run through that stock before making changes. Technology allows the business to accommodate shorter production runs and gives the company the flexibility to more easily change products."
